NetIQ Novell SUSE Hungary announced that LibreOffice 4.0 for Windows, a version of the popular open source office suite optimized for enterprise use, has become available in SUSE's portfolio. With innovations in a suite of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and formula editing applications, as well as a drawing program, organizations can further increase productivity while reducing or keeping low costs for office software.
In addition to the software package, SUSE offers a high level of enterprise support, which includes the release of fix packs, the repair of custom bugs, and the customization of source code. LibreOffice 4.0 for Windows also includes bug fixes that will only be available in later versions in the community release of LibreOffice.
The latest package includes several important innovations in file format compatibility. A number of improvements and bug fixes have been made to the OOXML and RTF file export and import processes, and the new package now offers the ability to import Microsoft Publisher documents. Support for the Visio file format has also been expanded: LibreOffice 4.0 for Windows supports all existing Visio file formats, from Visio 1992 released in 1.0 to Microsoft Visio 2013 released last year.
The package can be integrated with the most common content and document management systems using the CMIS standard, giving direct access to files stored in Alfresco and Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, among others. The user interface has also been improved, the package supports the use of Firefox themes (Personas), making the appearance of LibreOffice even more customizable.
What's new in word processing is the different header and footer on the first page of documents, which can be created without using a separate page style. In addition, the setting options for counting words have been expanded. In the spreadsheet application, the maximum size of ODF documents has been increased from 2GB to 4GB, and charts can now be exported as images.
