The price of the ILIFE G9 Pro is ridiculously low, but why?

Introductory

In the case of robotic vacuum cleaners, the appearance of self-emptying docks with dust bags marked the beginning of a new world. The fact that you didn't have to empty the port of the machine every day, or even better, every two days, promised much greater autonomy, since it was enough to look at the machine once every 2 weeks or even once a month.

Yes, it is enough every once in a while, since when the cleaning is finished, the machine docks at the charging station, in which an independent vacuum cleaner works. True, the role of this second vacuum cleaner is only to suck out the dirt collected in the vacuum cleaner during cleaning and to enter it into the dust bag in the docking station.

Perhaps it is not surprising that machines equipped with a self-draining dock are more expensive than their traditional counterparts, since we are buying not one, but two vacuum cleaners.

However, the ILIFE G9 Pro is a special piece, because its price is no higher than that of conventional robots, even though it also has a self-emptying docking station. The question is, of course, what is the reason for the low price, since the manufacturer saved money, in what way could it be worse than competitors that cost much, or even twice as much.

I promise this article will reveal the truth, I will look into it!

Unpacking and exterior

The box of the LIFE G9 Pro, at least due to its size, does not differ from other similar machines. We don't find too many differences inside either. Inside the soft sofa, the docking station is on the top, and the vacuum cleaner is on the bottom shelf. There aren't many accessories, we get two spare side brushes and a description. The extremely low price did not include an extra dust bag. Fortunately, there is one in the dock for that.

The dock that comes out of nylon grabbed me at first glance. Simple, clean, almost Scandinavian design. The plastic is white, of very good quality, it's good to hold the stuff. At the same time, it is also a very simple piece. There is no push button on this, just an LED to show that it is powered. When the lid is opened, a large but also simple dust bag awaits us. By simple, you mean that nothing closes his mouth when he poops, so you have to be careful if there is a lot of dirt in the bag so that it doesn't fall into the docking box.

The plastics of the LIFE G9 Pro are no different from those found on the dock. Most of the machine is made of white plastic with a particularly good feel. When you turn the machine around, you may notice a few things that kept the price so low.

How much less can we find than with an expensive machine?

  • No laser
  • There is no roller brush at the bottom of the machine
  • Instead of the usual 5 infrared sensors at the bottom, we find only three

I do not yet know what effect these have on the performance of the machine, I have not yet tried the machine at the time of writing this paragraph. So you also have to wait until the experiences chapter to find out how it performs.

Turn the machine over and look at the water and dust tank!

Here, too, we can find interesting things and some savings. Let me start by saying that the MOP is integrated with the port bowl. In other words, it is clicked on and can be removed, but basically, when you take out the dust container, the MOP comes with it. It is certainly positive that the dust container has a three-level filter on the outlet side. A metal filter, a textile filter and a HEPA filter.

Looking at the water tank, it seemed at first that I saw a pump in it, but upon closer inspection, it turns out that there is no pump yet. However, there is a pipe connection that connects to the vacuum cleaner, so it leads inside the machine. I don't know if there will be a vacuum or overpressure in this pipe, but it is sure to be responsible for the water supply. I don't know how well this will work either, but it is certainly a cheaper solution than installing a pump.

There is only one control element on the machine, a large push button that can be used to start or stop the machine. There is nothing else, but you probably won't need it, because the robot also has a phone application.

Let's see the paper form now!

Specification

If you don't mind, I won't let the text run wild, I'm really just listing the skills. The experience related to the operation will be read in the next chapter, I think that will be the essence of the article, so this chapter will not be too long.

The ILIFE G9 Pro robot vacuum cleaner has an advanced filter system. It works with a voltage of 14,4 V and a power of 30 W. The capacity of the dust tank is 2,5 liters, while the water tank is 0,2 liters. The suction power of the base unit is 12000 Pa, and that of the robot is 3000 Pa.

The device is connected via 2,4 GHz WiFi, through which, and of course, the home WiFi network also reaches the application. The water dosage can be adjusted in three levels: gentle, normal and strong. The suction power can be adjusted in four levels: quiet (≥0,5 kPa), normal (≥1,0 kPa), strong (≥1,5 kPa) and super strong (3,0 ±10% kPa).

It's equipped with an OBS terrain recognition system, whatever that means. It has a 2600 mAh battery that fully charges in less than 6 hours. In silent mode, it can work for up to 100 minutes. It can clean up to 100 square meters with one charge. The noise level varies between 60 and 75 dB depending on the operating mode.

It has multiple cleaning modes, including scheduled, edge, spot, maximum power and wet mopping modes. Automatically increases suction power on carpets. It can independently avoid obstacles and detect stairs.

The LIFE G9 Pro plans its route with a gyroscopic navigation system instead of a laser, but I suspect it also uses infrared LEDs behind the black plastic at the front of the machine. It is programmable and draws the cleaned area in real time. It travels at a speed of 18 m/min and can climb up to a 10-degree incline. It also passes over 15 mm high obstacles, such as thresholds.

In the end, there was nothing left but the physical attributes. The device is white, dimensions 315 x 315 x 79 mm, weight 4,48 kg. As I wrote, the package includes the robot vacuum cleaner, the charging station, accessories and an instruction manual.

Finally, one important thing. ILIFE G9 Pro does not have a central roller brush, only side brushes located on both sides. This means that the machine can only sweep.

To understand what this means:

Robots are often called 3-in-1 machines because they sweep, vacuum and mop. For vacuuming, the cylinder brush is used, like upright vacuum cleaners, it is this brush that cleans properly despite the relatively small suction power. The side brush is used for sweeping and the MOP is used for wiping.

Application

The application for the vacuum cleaner is called iLife Home (i.e. ILIFEHOME in the store), it can of course also be found in the Android and Apple stores.

After you have downloaded the program, you must of course register an account through which you will use it. Then you press and hold the single button on the vacuum cleaner until you hear three beeps and the green LED starts flashing. In this case, the machine is ready for installation. You search for the name specified in the program on the phone's Wi-Fi, connect to it, and thus the installation of the machine in the application is completed.

It is important to note here that the application is available in English, but not in Hungarian.

By selecting the robot, you can see its current status (e.g. charging). You can access the settings by clicking on the three lines at the top right. The usual things are waiting here, timing, logging of cleaning processes, status of accessories, but you can also set how many cleanings the docking station will suck the dirt out of the robot's dust container. The maximum value that can be set is four, that is, the dirt gets from the machine into the dust bag no later than every four cleanings.

Here, in the settings, you can set the strength of vacuuming (in 4 levels) and the amount of wet wiping, i.e. the amount of water reaching the MOP (3 levels). In addition, you also have a remote control function, with which you can direct the vacuum cleaner to the desired point in the apartment. Interestingly, here I came across the selection of cleaning methods within the remote control (cleaning next to the wall, spot cleaning, etc.)

Apart from these functions, only the Start button and the Recharge button remain. These may not need to be explained, you can use the former to start the cleaning, and the latter to send the LIFE G9 Pro back to the dock.

Although the application is in English, it does not require too much language knowledge to manage it. It is simple, transparent, easy to use and, of course, compared to expensive machines, it does not offer much, only the most necessary. I don't know what kind of map you are drawing yet, it will become clear during the first cleaning and the test, and I will write about it in the next chapter.

Experiences

First, I tested orientation and the ILIFE G9 Pro's stair detection. The former was like any vacuum cleaner without a laser today. They can be used in smaller rooms with a simpler floor plan, but not with the same precision as laser robots.

The stair detection worked great even though there are only 3 infrared sensors at the bottom of the machine.

I will not discuss the vacuum cleaner test. I planned the usual tests, that is, I wanted to vacuum flour, rice and soup pearls. And what did you do? The flour.

The ILIFE G9 Pro was the first vacuum cleaner in my career that took me longer to clean after the test than to complete the test.

Well, the machine was more or less successful with the flour, most of it ended up in the dust container, another large part went on the other table next to the one used for the test, where I work, and a third large part went on the floor next to the table.

ILIFE G9 Pro - a self-emptying robot for just under 50? 18

Vacuuming the rice was a complete failure. Even on the highest setting, the suction power was not enough to get the rice grains into the ILIFE G9 Pro's tank. Take this to mean that not a single grain of rice got into the powder container of the LIFE G9 Pro. Some of the grains were collected under the vacuum cleaner, and the other larger part was scattered around the office by the machine to my greatest delight, so approx. I was able to clean the office with another vacuum cleaner for an hour.

I didn't even try the soup gem after that.

Summary

Well, if someone expected to get a full-fledged robot vacuum cleaner with a self-emptying dock for barely 50 forints, I have to disabuse them. You can't get a full-fledged machine for that much money today. Okay, but then what can ILIFE G9 Pro be used for?

Well, the ILIFE G9 Pro is an automatic broom that can be used to collect dust, particles, hair and hair from the apartment.

No, serious robots are not suitable to replace a traditional vacuum cleaner either. You can't do a big cleaning with them. They don't wash the apartment. Still, they are much, much more efficient than the ILIFE G9 Pro. The only advantage I can say about the ILIFE G9 Pro is that it won't accidentally vacuum up the small LEGO pieces, because it can't. However, many of the iLife vacuum cleaners do not use roller brushes, yet people buy them. I had a reader who specifically asked me to recommend him a machine without a roller brush, because this would be the right tool for his long-haired dog.

In addition, it should not be forgotten that ILIFE did not start the production of robots yesterday, so you can definitely count on them for something, especially in terms of reliability!

So that's the bottom line.

If you are looking for a robot vacuum cleaner for sweeping tasks, then the ILIFE G9 Pro will be the perfect choice. However, if you want more than that, then start looking somewhere around twice the price of the ILIFE G9 Pro, because you won't find much better than this under 100.
