Ground coffee or capsules, coffee pods or tea grass, everything goes with this machine.
Introductory
I love coffee and I love making coffee. Of course, on a daily basis, I prefer to quickly grind the right amount of ground coffee, then brew the entire daily dose so that I can quickly get to my filling black during the day.
However, on the weekend I devote myself to the pleasure of coffee and make everything from cappuccino to latte to espresso coffee.
In this article, I will present a machine that is not about the experience of making coffee, but about enjoying the finished coffee. You will have coffee or even tea in your cup in no time.
Paper form
The HiBREW H1B, as I wrote in the title, is a 6-in-1 machine. In short, this means that we can make a drink with it in 6 ways. Of these, 5 methods are for making coffee and 1 for brewing tea. These many ways are achieved by using different inserts for different capsules and ground coffee and tea grass.
Coffee can be made in the following ways:
- Nespresso capsule,
- Dolce Gusto capsule,
- K-CUP capsules,
- ground coffee,
- SE POD (44mm) coffee pod
tea comes as a +1 to this. in other words, it will be a 6-in-1 machine.
HiBREW has been producing similar machines for a long time, and they have become compatible with more and more capsules over the years. Of course, this is not the only way machines have developed. The HiBREW H1B included in the current test, for example, already has an advanced flow meter, which means that you can set the amount of water used for one serving of coffee instead of the coffee preparation time.
In addition, there are capabilities that we would only expect from more serious machines. For example, there is pre-soaking (pre-cooking), emptying of residual water, adjustable water temperature, temperature display on LCD display, up to 20 bar pressure and we also get a new solenoid valve, which e.g. it lowers the pressure in the system if the adapter is blocked.
This is important because with the old machines, it happened that there was such an overpressure in the machine that we could not open the locking lever on the top of the machine, so it was not possible to remove the coffee capsule adapter from the press machine.
It's a small thing, but they also improved the drip tray, so now you can place larger cups under the spout.
Skills in brief:
- Adjustable water temperature
- Adjustable water volume
- residual water discharge
- pre-soaking
- up to 20 bar pressure
Regarding the capabilities, it is also important to point out that the lever on top of the machine is already made of metal, so that it cannot be accidentally broken when closing or opening.
Experiences
Let's start with the outside!
The HiBREW H1B looks good, is small, practical, but the quality of the plastics shows that we did not get our hands on a hundred thousand HUF pressing machine. The thickness of the plastics seems adequate, but the glossy surface becomes a fingerprint magnet in seconds, so it's not so nice anymore.
Here and there you can find small burrs, but of course this does not affect the operation of the machine. Actually, it's not very noticeable, but since this is a test, it's worth mentioning.
The good news, however, is that the HiBREW labeled lever on top of the machine looks really solid. On old machines, the plastic locking lever didn't look nearly as solid, we will only be able to break it if we break the top of the entire machine. Don't put it in Hulk's hands, he's sure to take care of it in seconds.
Of course, making coffee is the most important issue. I tried two ways, a Nespresso compatible capsule and the crazy coffee.
It is clear that making coffee itself is not complicated. Of the three buttons on the top of the machine, use the middle one to turn the HiBREW H1B on and off. With the right one, we can start the coffee (or tea) preparation, while the left one is used to adjust the amount of water. I liked this solution, because when making tea, we can switch the machine to more water with a few button presses, but I think this is also true if we use cocoa capsules.
Setting the temperature is a bit more complicated. To do this, press and hold the button with the cup pictogram on the right. If the temperature starts flashing on the front panel display, you can step up by pressing the button. When the maximum is reached, the display jumps to the minimum temperature again.
Inserting the capsules is also not complicated. We take out the head that can be used for the selected capsule type, insert the capsule, push the head into place and press down the lever on the roof. With this lever, we close the system so that the hot water under pressure goes to the right place.
With older machines, I have read several complaints that e.g. with crazy coffee, the system did not close properly and the hot water came where it shouldn't have. Although I only made a few batches of coffee, I did not experience such an error with the HiBREW H1B.
How was the coffee? That's good! As I wrote above, with this machine, and with capsule machines in general, the goal is not the joy of making coffee, but to get fresh coffee as simply and quickly as possible.
Anyone who has ever made coffee with such a machine knows that no matter what they do, they cannot achieve a coffee shop quality, but what really matters is that the enjoyment value of your coffee is very close to that. So I would by no means call the product bad, in fact...
Of course, this comes at a price, especially if you're thinking about capsule coffee. It also has many advantages, as you can make almost any kind of coffee with a million varieties of coffee, cocoa, whatever you have at home, and with the adjustable amount of water. Perhaps the only obstacle is that this machine does not have a milk frother.
Summary
The machine is good, the machine is beautiful, the machine is small and it is convenient to make coffee with it. Perhaps the external plastics are the ones that clearly show that we are talking about a relatively cheap machine, because e.g. the coffee capsule adapters all seem to be of very high quality and durable.
The HiBREW H1B makes good coffee, and not just for how simple it is. There is no fatigue with it, macera. The accessories are easy to clean and easy to wash.
What I particularly like is that the HiBREW H1B is small. It's a really narrow machine, so it can stay on the counter even in smaller kitchens, it won't take up much space, and you'll always be just a click away from your delicious fresh coffee.
As I wrote, making coffee can also be an experience for me, but I also have to admit that on working days, when I don't have time to mess around with it, a capsule machine like this would be better. I wouldn't have to brew the daily dose in the morning, but I could put in a capsule whenever I wanted, and the HiBREW H1B would prepare the freshly steaming black in minutes.
Ok, so at the end of the article, all that remains is the price. According to the search engine, the domestic price of the machine is between HUF 50 and HUF 54.
