Furibee F60 camera test - the featherweight racer

Furibee F60 camera test - the featherweight racer

Now we are looking for an action camera that is the cheapest but worth buying solution. Our choice fell on the Furibee F60, hopefully this will be the entry-level model we were looking for.

Furibee F60 camera test - the featherweight racer

So the F60 isn’t going to be a big gun, and we can even take that literally, as the gadget is super light and awesome small - see the table below for more details. Unfortunately, the latter is also true for the entire package, apart from the waterproof case and a clip fastener, only the indispensable USB cable peeks out of the box. When designing the device, at first thought, the twelve one-dozen commonplace jumps in, really not much excitement has been smuggled in. It doesn’t have a huge significance because the point is inside anyway.

Wrapping

As mentioned, when you open the box, two accessories and a USB cable appear next to the F60 camera. It reminds me of even an instruction manual in English, but not of the more detailed kind. The 5,9 × 4,0 × 2,80 cm tiny weight weighs 58 grams, which is good news because it might be safer in the clip holder, we’re talking about the waterproof case after the picture.

Look at me, but I didn’t examine the 30-meter authentication, instead I floated the stuff in a bowl of water. Well, it seems to be doing a great job, the snap-on locking system is surprisingly well played, with no minimal amount of liquid getting inside. Based on these experiences, I dare say that it can be used for underwater shots as well! A little attention (we really like this) is that there are also four vibration / motion dampers inside the case - this helps to stabilize and also protects the gadget to some extent. The red dot is engraved, we can go on.

I wouldn’t waste too many words on the tweezers, maybe it’s worth knowing so much that we think it squeezes with quite a fair amount of force and the camera fits snugly enough in it. We would have been happy if the list of accessories could have been longer, yet we understand that you ran out of that much money for that.

DIY

It may also be noticeable to our less attentive readers that an accessory that has not been seen / mentioned so far also appears in the image below. Well, the mount on the left is a self-made solution that allows you to mount the camera on a bike, among other things. A screw of the right size has been welded to the rubber-lined pipe clamp, on which we can easily wind up the accessories from Furibee. If you’re adept at attaching the screw, you’ll practically get a fully patent-looking bracket, and you might as well be poisoned that you’re not going to wear it out! Cheap, practical (the rubber seal also does a good service), rugged, all you have to do is make sure the screw is welded at the right angle so the accessories will look exactly ahead when you fully screw it on.

Use

You don’t have to be scared if the first power-up fails; simply place the device on the charger! For example, the supplied battery would not have been installed at the factory, but this was not the case. It only takes a few seconds to set up, just press and hold the button on the front. You can also use the same button to switch between the modes (shooting, video), and you can enter the menu by pressing the OK button at the right time. Here we will make good use of the switches on the side, as we can use them to scroll up and down.

The interior

Sometimes awesome, sometimes amusing is what you see on cheaper discount action cameras. Of course, it is obvious that without 4K (almost) no one dares to enter the market, although it is at least as clear that these will be interpolated values - that is, the missing image information will be replaced by the system chip. The latter is performed by the Allwinner V1,2 (ARM Cortex-A3 CPU) capable of up to 7 GHz. The chip isn't exactly an improvement today, but it goes for 1080p at 60 fps, and even 720p frames per second is available in 120p - aka slow motion. The other important point is the sensor, which is exactly the name of a Sony IMX 179. The 8 MP CMOS image sensor chip is perhaps the best in this price segment, although that obviously doesn’t mean that overwhelming image quality is expected. For example, there may be a problem that there is no image stabilizer, sometimes digital zoom could be of good use, but that’s not part of the repertoire either.

Another point to mention is where the cost reduction has not gone unnoticed: the 2-inch LCD display. With the 320 × 240 pixel display, we’re guaranteed not to get lost in the details, it’ll be pretty much enough to get some clue about the subject targeted by the 170-degree wide-angle lens.

The maximum operating time of a 900 mAh battery is one hour on paper, in practice unfortunately it is 35-45 minutes - it is worth skipping the 4K resolution and then dragging it on. I guess no one hoped the manufacturer would add a microSD card to it. Hold on, because… you really don't have a memory card, so we'll have to get one. Movies are in MP4 format (with H.264 compression), and digital images are saved as JPG. The XDV utility allows you to control the F60 from a smartphone via WiFi, so for those who like to control their devices remotely, this may come in handy. Less good news is that a WiFi connection won’t have a good effect on uptime at all, even though it can’t be called sensational anyway.

We've already mentioned slow motion recording above, but it's a good idea to know that there is also a car mode, so the device can even be used as a tachograph camera - otherwise this image quality will be more than adequate. Finally, the timelaps method is worth noting, and be sure to evaluate the quality of the finished materials in the knowledge of the price! We said…

Live

Be the first to come up with Full HD at 60 fps, the sound may seem strange because of the waterproof case.

And in the case of slow motion recording recorded at 120 fps, this was achieved.

Finally, a little time-lapse.

I think we can dispense with a professional analysis of image quality, here now (literally) we won’t get lost in the details. From what we have seen, it has been proven that the F60 is capable of (yet) affordable production, we just need to be aware of its capabilities; for hobby purposes e.g. seems sufficient. The device is therefore recommended for users who are now familiar with the world of action cameras, and may even be used in some secondary role. In his opinion, his knowledge was acceptable in relation to the price (slow motion, timelapse, car mode, etc.), and it was conceivable that we would not encounter a shocking quality - this was proved. By the way, we were especially pleased to finally have the much-seen Sony IMX 179 sensor in our hands, but the F60 now closed the test without a slap.
