Tension is incessant - do we need it?

We were not sloppy and we tried both units. The essence of the test was to find out how long each power supply can supply a machine with adequate voltage in the event of a power failure.

As a participant in the test, we chose a completely average configuration in which a dual-core Intel processor worked. A 17-inch TFT served as a display. Thus, the measurements were performed with a monitor (in the case of the BTN-400A, spliced with a hub), so that no multimedia or 3D applications were run during the immersion, only a web browser was used. We did not start the measurement at machine start-up, but disconnected the UPS from the UPS after the system was up, and then waited until the UPS battery was completely discharged and the computer was turned off. In the case of plain Blackknights - as they do not have software manageability - this was done simply, when the plug was pulled out, they immediately started beeping, at low charge it accelerated and then after a while the machine stopped.

BNT-600AP and BNT-800AP

The situation is a bit different with the software Blackknight Pro-g, as the program's System Configuration menu also includes settings by default that do not allow the battery to run for its full life. For example, the 300 second value of Power Failure Windows Shutdown Delay, which means that in the event of a network failure (power outage), Windows will shut down after 5 minutes, even if the battery lasts many times longer. The Low Battery Windows Shutdown Delay has similar consequences, and after 30 seconds of reaching a low battery level (which in our experience starts around 30%), Windows also shuts down. It should be noted, however, that we see a little more meaning in this than in the previous function. To easily avoid these options, we simply disconnected the serial or USB cable from the UPSs so the software could no longer communicate with the device and could not shut down the machine.

The following time results were obtained for each type:

BNT-400A

9,5 minutes

BNT-1000APU

31 min
