These are the latest cheap Xiaomi phones in early 2018

In 2017, Xiaomi introduced "A" in the designation of devices. The capital a is not only used for telephones, but also for TVs, for example. In any case, this new designation means the entry level, with this Xiaomi introduced a new step, further dividing the previous entry category.

Entry-level phones have already embarked on their conquest journey last year, essentially in the order of their strength. The last to arrive was the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus, after which we will be able to get acquainted with the middle category. Last year, the most popular handsets were members of the Xiaomi Redmi Note series, which had already reached the lower end of the mid-range. We will meet their successors soon, in the meantime we will have to reach the two versions of Redmi 5A / 5/5 Plus and Note A. We’re now scrutinizing these so you can more easily compare their abilities.

1. Xiaomi Redmi 5A

Xiaomi Redmi 5A 1

This is the cheapest of Xiaomi phones, the absolute entry level, the lowest price for which you can experience the Xiaomi feeling of life. I already had one in my hand and although the plastic on the back and only quad core of the processor was definitely a quality phone I had a feel for it.

The phone features a Qualcomm chip, a Snapdragon 425 with a 4-core processor running at 1,4 GHz, just like the next device on the list. The hardware is very similar to that, the only difference will be in the display. This Redmi 5A is probably the last mobile with a 5-inch screen in Xiaomi's offer, and since then they come with a 5,5-inch display, and at the end of the list you'll find a 6-inch display. The display resolution is HD, which is 1280 x 720 pixels. The device memory is 2 GB, and 16 GB is available.

The device also has 802.11b / g / n WiFi 4.1 Bluetooth, navigation is supported by GPS, Glonass, Beidou satellite systems. Sensors include an accelerometer, compass, gravity sensor and gyroscope. Which, like Xiaomi’s other very cheap phones, has missed out on the fingerprint reader.

So this is the cheapest Xiaomi currently, at least from the new series, you can buy it for 24 forints here: Xiaomi Redmi 5A

2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Lite

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A lite 1

This phone is rarely referred to as Lite, although it’s good to know that there are two versions of Note 5A. The cheapest one is most easily recognized by the fact that the memory is only 2 and the storage is only 16 GB. What they don't usually notice, however, is that the processor in this phone is different. The Lite version works with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, but it only has 4 cores running at 1,4 GHz.

Another very important difference is that the standard Note 5A was designed as a self-contained phone, which gave it a 16-megapixel camera, compared to the Lite version, in which the front-panel camera is only 5-megapixel.

In other respects, this Lite version does not differ from the normal Note 5A. WiFi, Bluetotth, sensors and battery are also in the same two phones. So today, this phone is the cheapest new generation phone from Xiaomi. You can find more details about the hardware in the table at the end of this article.

3. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A

Redmi Note 5A 1

If you don’t want to stretch your savings to the extreme, but still buy a Xiaomi phone, this will be your device! The central unit in this phone already has a Snapdragon 435 that can handle eight cores and a 1,4 GHz clock. In terms of memory and storage, we can also come across 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB versions, of course the latter is much more expensive and a bit perhaps superfluous for this phone as well.

The mobile phone, as well as the Lite version, has a 5,5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. From this, we can immediately guess that the panel still has the 16:9 aspect ratio according to the "old" scheme.

You may have read above that this phone was made for self-making. Interestingly, the sensor has a higher resolution under the front panel camera than under the back panel, with 16 megapixels at the front and 13 megapixels at the camera.

From radios, the usual Xiaomi pick-up can be observed. We get three different options for navigation, so we can use it virtually anywhere in the world. In addition to the standard GPS, there are also Glonass and Beidou. WiFi supports 802.11b / g / n standards at 2,4 GHz, Bluetooth is standard 4.2. Sensors include an accelerometer, compass, gravity sensor and gyroscope.

The price of the phone in 3/32 configuration is 39 thousand forints, and you can find it here: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A 3/32 GB version

If you definitely want more memory and storage, you can also find the 4/64 GB version here for 46 thousand forints: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A 4/64 GB version

4. Xiaomi Redmi 5

Xiaomi Redmi 5 1

It's finally not an A phone. The Redmi 5 would have been at the top of the entry level if this year’s offering hadn’t featured an A-like designation, Plus. The Plus always gives a little plus over the normal version, so the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is just the penultimate on the muscle list.

The most important thing to know about the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is that it has already been given the look of the new school, i.e. a thin bottom and top frame and an 18: 9 aspect ratio. Because of this, the phone can carry a higher resolution display without increasing the width of the mobile, i.e. the width of a phone with a 5,7-inch screen is roughly the same as an older 5-inch. As the aspect ratio changes, we also need to learn new resolutions. For the Redmi 5, this is HD +, which means 1440 x 720 pixels.

The mobile already has a thicker central unit, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 by model, with an eight-core 1,8 GHz processor. From memory and storage, you can choose the low-cost version with a 2/16 GB build, or you can reach for a much more reasonable 3/32 GB build.

We’re not too well-off in the field of cameras, but knowing Xiaomi’s quality, we can’t complain about it in this price range either. The front camera includes a 5- and the back panel a 12-megapixel sensor. WiFi is usually 802.11b / g / n standard, while Bluetooth is the newer 4.2. The sensors are the usual ones, we also find an accelerometer, a compass, a gravity sensor and a gyroscope, and we no longer have to do without a fingerprint reader in this phone.

5. Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus 1

We have arrived at the current peak of the entry level, the Redmi 5 marked Plus. This phone is already an affordable device in all respects. It features a modern, trendy exterior, a strong central unit and a huge display.

Let's start with the display. As with the version without Plus, the new line is representative, ie the aspect ratio is already 18: 9. What is very important, however, is that this phone already has FHD + resolution, meaning the display works at a pixel density of 403 ppi with 2160 x 1080 pixels. For a screen size of nearly six inches, exactly 5,99 inches, this resolution promises a needle-sharp image.

The phone already has a Snapdragon 625 chip, which is not young - in this case, the one-year-old can no longer be said to be young - but to this day a lot of phones are built on it. It is cheap, fast and also very good in terms of energy consumption, and it strengthens the bottom of the middle category rather than the top of the lower category. So the bottom line is that a tile with very nice muscles works in the Redmi 5 Plus. In terms of memory and storage, you can also choose more or more, 3 / 32-4 / 64 GB configuration.

In other abilities, great madness is not expected. The sensors are the usual here as well, we also find an accelerometer, a compass, a gravity sensor and a gyroscope, and luckily we don't have to do without the fingerprint reader in this phone either. WiFi is usually 5b / g / n standard, while Bluetooth is the newer 12. This phone already has a 802.11 mAh battery.
