Introductory
I do computer work, which means I'm constantly sitting in front of a monitor. Of course, I use a table lamp, not a bad one, but it is still a constant problem that the lamp's light comes from the side. Although I type almost blindly, it rarely happens that I can't find letters. In this case, the light comes in handy on winter evenings.
Solving the problem is not complicated, there are a number of lamps that need to be placed on top of the monitor. I have one in my account. It didn't work, because the bracket that held it was awfully crap, it had to be glued to the coffee, and whatever I used to stick it, it fell off after a while. I guess the heat of the monitor didn't do the glue any good.
I've been looking for a solution for a while, because the monitor lighting worked anyway, I liked it. Then sometime late last year a new light arrived from Blitzwolf. It was characterized by sympathetic knowledge and an astonishingly low price. I looked at the pictures of it on the net, especially the design of the console, and decided to try it. Packaging accessories and exterior
Anyone who has seen a Blitzwolf packaging has seen them all, with a slight exaggeration. I'm talking about green and white boxes. The BW-CML2 Pro also came in such a box. Since this is a monitor lamp, it is not surprising that the box is elongated.
Opening the package, we find the lamp itself, the support bracket underneath, and a remote control in another box. In addition to these, there is a USB C cable and a description that shows how the light works.
Looking at the exterior, we don't find much of interest, but that doesn't mean the lamp doesn't look good. An elegant, square solution. Its material is matte plastic for the most part, of course it is transparent above the LEDs. There is a luminous surface in front, which shines downward, and there is a back, which casts light backwards and upwards. The controls are located on the front panel in the form of five touch-sensitive buttons. The USB connector has been moved to the back, in the middle, near the console.
The remote control once, but quite a lot of buttons are placed on the small surface. With these, we can connect the intensity of the light, the temperature, the colored lights and the effects. So everything works from the remote control.
The console, as I mentioned in the introduction, is an essential thing. The pictures showed only the shape and the design, and it became clear already that there is some extra weight inside the plastic, because the console is quite heavy compared to its size. This is good news, so it will be more difficult to slide off the top of the monitor.
Paper form
Knowledge also played a role in choosing this lamp, even if I won't be using most of these skills. And here we can immediately turn to the effects of RGB LEDs.
In the rear lighting area, we find RGB LEDs. These are used to illuminate the wall behind the monitor. As in the case of TVs, it is also good for the eyes if there is a smaller difference in brightness between the light of the display and the area behind the monitor. In other words, the contrast is lower. This is less tiring and less damaging to the eyes. So LEDs that light up backwards have a right to exist.
These colored lights are not only able to illuminate with one color (red, blue or green), but can also run several effects on them. We can also choose from these with the remote control, as well as choose from three types of flashing to music.
For those who work, the light from the front, towards the table, is much more important. Well, that's why I bought this lamp.
The fact is that the color temperature of the lighting can be adjusted in three steps, from cold white to warm orange (2700-6500 K). In addition, the brightness can be adjusted between 400 and 1000 lux.
Among Blitzwolf's similar lamps, this is the one that knows the most in terms of color temperature and brightness. The older models had a minimum value of 2800-3000 kelvins, and the brightness used to be only 900 lux, although with that lamp it was possible to change the light using a phone application (a very unnecessary ability in my opinion).
I haven't talked about two things yet, although they are also important. One is the power consumption, which can only be 10 watts maximum. The other thing, which is more important, is that the manufacturer used a lighting solution that causes the lamp's light to arrive asymmetrically, so it only illuminates the table, not the display. This was also important to me, because I also do graphic work, in which case it would not be good if the colors of the display were distorted by the light falling on it.
Experiences
Let's start by saying that I can't report anything bad. I was a little afraid before unpacking, because a lady in our Facebook group indicated that she was not satisfied with the brightness, but it turned out that I definitely didn't need more of the light.
After all, this lamp is for me to work by its light, it's plenty good for that, but if you want to read a book, say, it might not be enough.
Installation is easy, the console works well. It has a small fold-out surface that rests on the back of the monitor. It is covered with non-slip material, so even if it does not stick to the back of the monitor, it prevents it from falling or sliding down.
The controls are good on the lamp, I can get a little involved in one thing here. The brightness and color temperature can be easily adjusted and we get a separate switch for the front and rear lights. However, if you want to use the backlight in a simple way, without effects (red, green or blue), then do not touch the colored light control button on the lamp, because from then on you can only switch between the effects. We need the remote control to be able to switch to one of the three colors again.
What's good, however, is that asymmetric lighting has come in! The lamp really does not illuminate the display, during use it feels as if the light is not coming from the lamp, but from the display on the table.
I also like the ability to adjust the temperature of the light. I don't use the warmest setting. Only medium and cold light. The latter during the day, and the medium in the evening, when I, and my eyes, are more tired.
What I don't use at all are lighting effects. For young people, while playing, these may be cool and spectacular, but when working, the flickering is downright annoying. Of course, it wasn't invented for that, it can also be turned off, so luckily you don't have to leave the light on.
Summary
This turned out to be a rather short article, but the Blitzwolf lamp called BW-CML2 Pro is not a devilish structure either. He knows what he promises, no more, no less. But what he knows, he knows well. The brightness is good, the selectable color temperature is good, and I also like the flicker-free background light, blue is what works for me.
