A sharp test of Xiaomi's smart baby thermometer

A sharp test of Xiaomi's smart baby thermometer

With us, even three-month-old babies are familiar with Xiaomi's gadgets.

A sharp test of Xiaomi's smart baby thermometer

Sometime half a year ago, as we approached childbirth, I started looking at what it would be worthwhile to equip babies from China - because they became twins. I have strong reservations about the Chinese games, especially the ones they might even take into their mouths, so they fell out of the picture. However, I found some things I found worth ordering. Such was the case with a double baby bottle warmer, and such was the thermometer in the article. But what makes a thermometer smart, and why did I like it? You can find out now!

Our apartment is full of Xiaomi products. Everything from a robot vacuum cleaner to a smart scale is here, a smart home is also being built now, so I have experience with the company's products and I haven't had to be disappointed so far. I can say I'm a Xiaomi fan, and I'm not ashamed for that. I remember fever measurement as an extremely maceric thing from my childhood. True, there were mercury thermometers back then, and since then digital ones have been here, but I somehow don’t trust the latter. It measures as many kinds of data, and it doesn't matter where we plug it. I’m downright ill from the butt fever measurement. Of course, there are solutions that need to be held towards the forehead like a gun. It's not bad either, but it's also a bit maceric. What’s good is that the baby doesn’t have to be woken up to be able to measure its temperature. Well, but Xiaomi's thermometer promised something completely different. That night not even have to get up out of bed to measure the heat, and if you have trouble getting an alarm for the need to act. Sounds good? I think so, so I ordered this thermometer soon, which arrived on time. Now that we’re past the second vaccination, I could try it, and I’m largely happy with it.

Packaging and exterior

The thermometer for Xiaomi dolls can be found in online stores under the name of one of the company’s sub-brands. The name miaomiaoce sounds pretty weird, but that should be our biggest problem.

The package wasn’t too big, just a little white plastic box. Opening this we find the thermometer as well as a small white box with tiny paper rings. The thermometer is a tiny, light blue, pleasant-to-touch disc that is only 8 millimeters high and 3,2 inches in diameter. If we reverse, we will find a button cell at the bottom for the power supply.

And the hoops in the small paper box are actually tiny double-sided adhesive, skin-friendly, anti-allergenic hoops made by 3M. I guess you can already guess, this is how to “glue” the thermometer to the baby’s body.

Use

As a novice dad, I didn’t really know how the baby would be able to sleep with a disc, but I’ve known ever since. Since we have twins, the traditional respiration monitor was out of the question, we had to buy something that could be clipped to the diaper at the tummy. Needless to say, these breath monitors are at least twice as tall and much more roomy than the Xiaomi thermometer, yet, you can sleep with them without any problems. Armed with this experience, I was no longer worried at all about how we would use the thermometer in a sharp situation.

The use itself is extremely easy. Remove the cover from one side of the adhesive ring and glue it to the thermometer. Then we pull the cover off the other side and you can go to the baby too! With commissioning, we would be ready if it weren’t for a smart device. Yes, but Xiaominál usual, fantastic capabilities that can support up to every bit of crap, so this too. You will need to use our mobile phone and you will also need an app for it!

Phone App

It is important to remember that if you lose such a thermometer, you do not want to download the program from the QR code shown in the description. If you test like this, you will download a program entirely in Chinese, which also requires all kinds of permissions to use your phone. However, if you enter the manufacturer's name in the Google Play Store, you will find the appropriate program in English. This will make it a little easier!

After installation, you need to turn on Bluetooth on your phone, because this will allow the mobile to communicate with the thermometer. Once this is done you can search for the thermometer and pair without a code.

The first time you use it, you need to set up a profile where the data will be collected. In the case of twins, it is especially useful to be able to set up several profiles, so when we start using the program, we can choose which baby the thermometer is on, so we can log the temperature change to his profile.

The setup is almost complete. There are two more things to set, and these features can be found in the settings that can be called up in the upper left corner. These are the alarm values, where you can set both minimum and maximum values, and the alarm sound. If you exceed the set limit during operation, the background of the application will turn red on the phone, and at the same time the set alarm will sound. An effective way to wake us from our sleep at night. Moreover, the program “speaks” to us not only at this time, but also when we forget the thermometer on the baby. As you have read, the adhesive made by 3M does not cause a skin-friendly and allergic reaction either - I think it is worth doing a test before use - yet the manufacturer says that the thermometer should be up in one place for a maximum of six hours. If it is necessary to continue using it, apply it to another skin surface with another adhesive.

Experience and verdict

The Xiaomi thermometer is expensive compared to a traditional thermometer, we have to pay $ 27, or about 6000 forints. However, this cost is relative. As I wrote above, we are already past a period of fever, and it is very reassuring to know that we can spend a few hours between feedings — fortunately — sleeping instead of constantly checking for fever.

The practical test showed that the structure works really well. The phone shows a graph showing the rise or fall of the temperature, and the alarm can be set by us in terms of both sound form and volume.

With us, the hoop that can be used for gluing was not a problem. There was a time when we had to leave it on for a long time, we saw a very pale red hoop in place, but in about half an hour it also disappeared, so it is suspected that the thermometer had rather pressed the skin a bit on that spot.

If the question is whether he understood the price, then I can say yes. Of course, like everything, this can also be cheaper to swim, as we can buy a plain digital thermometer. As they say, you can also go where you want to go with a Mercedes, but for whoever can, you still buy a Mercedes, not a Trabant, and not by accident. In addition, so beyond pregnancy, childbirth, and the first larger dose of diapers, I have to say that it's not the $ 6000 spent on a thermometer that cuts a person to the ground, but the orders of magnitude higher that we leave in the store for a wet butt wipe. , for creams, diapers, in the pharmacy for various medicines, and I could list more. So I suggest that if you are expecting a baby too, consider getting it or write it down on the list of things your relatives will buy, because in a good case you will still get so much - tie up a stuffed animal no one don't bring it! - that you won't win to unpack.
