At the initiative of the government, with the support of professional organizations and market companies, the second phase of the Superfast Internet Program, SZIP 2019, will be launched in January 2.0, with the aim of building at least 100 Mbps but expandable to gigabit bandwidth or optical networks. The Declaration on the Launch of the Super-Fast Internet Program 2.0 (SZIP 2.0) for the Deployment of Gigabit Networks, signed on 2018 December 12, is about the deployment of high-speed networks in full compliance with the strategic objectives set out in the Digital Agenda of the European Union. Secretary of State for Infocommunications and Consumer Protection Ákos Kara emphasized in the statement: The Hungarian government is committed to making Hungarian people, local communities and businesses the winners of digitalisation. He added that under SZIP 2.0, the government prefers to build gigabit-capable, primarily optical networks, but the goal is at least 100 Mbps of bandwidth.

Balázs Károly Solymár, Deputy State Secretary for Infocommunications, emphasized that significant investments in digital infrastructure have a primary role in maintaining competitiveness, creating new businesses and jobs, and in the optimal functioning of digital administration. As he said, the new networks will provide solutions for all households, schools, libraries, research institutes, businesses and public utilities that meet the requirements of today and can be further developed to meet the challenges of the future.
