Cubot X18 Plus - another status report

One of the best mid-range smartphones of May received its first major upgrade package, so now we’ve pulled it out again for a few thoughts.

Cubot X18 Plus - another status report

We start the line of positive news with the Google Device Certificate. We are pleased to report that the phone has received the "plecsnit", so we can be sure that:

  1. has Google - licensed applications owned by Google and
  2. passed the Android compatibility test.

Note that non-certified devices are not secure according to the search giant, don’t get Android or app updates - we’d argue with that - let’s say the built-in apps aren’t licensed (maybe some features don’t work well), so that’s not exactly an ideal state.

Other events happened in the life of the Cubot X18 Plus; as mentioned in the introduction, the first update package has arrived on the phone. The 353 MB patch was installed without any problems in about 10 minutes. Based on the first experience, we can report the following innovations:

  1. DuraSpeed has been released, which is primarily used to increase performance. DuraSpeed controls the running of apps in the background, by the way, giving the foreground application more cocoa so they can run a little faster.
  2. The back camera has been improved (test images later).
  3. The latest security package for Android (April package) has been implemented.
  4. For a mysterious reason, the “Gallery” app has disappeared, luckily the “Photos” app has survived.
  5. Google Mobile Services (Chrome, Drive, Gmail, Maps, etc.) has been updated.

As expected, the compilation of the update management app is by no means flawless, in any case the process is so simple that it can’t be spoiled - just make sure your phone is at least 40-50% charged. It was not included in the list above, although it is very striking that memory usage has also improved; the previous average utilization of 2,3-2,4 GB dropped to around 2,1 GB after the upgrade. While the Cubot X18 Plus isn’t short on memory, it can still come in handy for those who run a lot of apps at once.

It seems that with some magic, warming was also remedied; I will look into this more closely in the coming days.
