Computex 2008: AMD's mobile platform, Puma, is launched
AMD Puma is bidding on Intel Centrino laurels.
The AMD Puma mobile platform consists of three components:
- AMD Turion X2 Ultra processor (codename: Griffin),
- ATI Radeon HD 3200 IGP "hidden" in the north bridge,
- Chipset with IGP: AMD M780G + AMD SB700
In the following, we examine the above-mentioned components separately, however, we only describe the novelties, the hitherto unknown information, since in our March writing we have already mentioned the AMD Puma in the form of a detailed description.
Az AMD Turion Ultra X2 processor family currently has three members, the specifications of the central units are summarized in our table below.

AMD is hidden in the M780G ATI Radeon HD 3200 The following technologies can be connected to a graphics controller:
- Microsoft DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1, OpenGL 2.0
- the Unified Video Decoder relieves the CPU when playing HD videos
- Can be associated with HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort outputs
- PowerPlay power management
- thanks to Hybrid CrossFireX, IGP can be associated with HD 3400, HD 3600 or HD 3800 Mobility Radeon
- PowerXpress allows you to switch between the integrated and discrete graphics controllers, all without being noticed, depending on whether additional VGA power is required, if not, it shuts it down, resulting in lower power consumption and increased battery life
If you have already mentioned it, it is worth mentioning it separately ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3800so far, only the mid-range HD 3600 and the low-end HD 3400 have created the Mobility Radeon HD 3000 series. In beautiful silence, in the shadow of the Puma, AMD unveiled the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3800, its technical parameters are as follows:

Az AMD M780G north bridge and the AMD SB700 the southern bridge ensemble also has remarkable parameters:
- HyperFlash is a replica of Intel Turbo Memory - formerly Robson - technology, as the goal is to reduce the boot time of Windows Vista
- the south bridge handles up to 14 USB 2.0 and 6 SATA devices
AMD Puma is a promising platform, a worthy opponent of Intel Centrino, and that there is imagination in it, nothing better proves that the largest, best-known notebook manufacturers - including Acer, ASUS, Clevo, Fujitsu, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hewlett-Packard, MSI, NEC and Toshiba will also offer Puma-based laptops.
