Introducing: USB 3.0 reloaded

The first fruit of our new article structure is this writing, so now I am wasting a few sentences on this fact, not on the products. From now on, officially - because sometimes we had a similar length of writing - you can come across two types of articles on our pages. One of the series of writings starting with "Introducing", where we will try to present products in a consumable form in such a consumable form without unnecessary tearing, so that the writing can be run through and understood quickly, but essential things such as measurements are not missing. .

The other type of article will be the usual multi-page test tutorial. We make such writing when we write about a product that brings a completely new technology, something that has not been mentioned on our site yet. In this case, in addition to presenting and measuring the product, you will also find a technology demonstration.

Well, now the products can follow! Since we have written about USB 3.0 several times, we will limit ourselves to the presentation and tests.

Most importantly, we are dealing with new products from two manufacturers whose names are far from unknown to us. One is Chieftec and the other is ViPowER, which has been the subject of less talk lately. This is because they were best known in Hungary for their interior rack solutions, but as their popularity waned a bit, the manufacturer also disappeared. It seems that now, with USB 3.0, they are trying to pick up the thread in time and come up with a new product offering.

We have now received external storage devices from these two manufacturers, more precisely houses, in which we have to buy the hard drive ourselves. While this involves a little more work than hard-drive units, it is amply compensated by the freedom to choose storage.

Units are divided into two classes due to the size of the hard drive that can be built into them. The truly portable 2,5- and desktop versions accept 3,5-inch storage. Here, we immediately describe that portable units will not be measured, as to date there is no small hard drive that would be suitable for a USB 3.0 case in terms of speed.

The units all have in common that in addition to the USB 3.0 interface that can be connected to the computer they do not contain extras. The difference is the color of the exterior, possibly the color of the light source indicating operation.

There is only one product hanging out of the line, but that is significant. This is nothing more than a ViPowER dock, in which you don't have to screw the storage into it, it's just enough to slide it in to read the data from it. This product doesn’t make much sense in an office, but in a computer service or at home, a real cube or tuning can come in very handy.

Let's see the products in more detail, together with measurements!
