The AMD B450 chipset boards have run into
ASUS, ASRock and Gigabyte have already launched their offerings.
The B450 chipset didn’t make a groundbreaking change, but it didn’t need to, because more far-reaching improvements were made by AMD even in the first generation of the Ryzen. The new chipset can accordingly be seen as a kind of fine-tuning; energy efficiency (lower idle consumption) has improved again, in addition to Precision Boost Overdrive, XFR2 Enhanced and StoreMI support, which are significant factors. With the former two, the processor can “run out” its raised clock more efficiently, and the latter is a special storage management technology that combines the benefits of SSD and HDD with a few clicks; the two drives are concatenated automatically, StoreMI balances between storage devices without user intervention - by default, it moves files to the solid state drive where access time is critical. With enough system memory, you can even tweak 2 GB, which then acts as a cache.
As you can see below, there is no SLI this time either, but CrossFire does, not as if there is a serious demand for it. The following table reports the exact knowledge of the platform:
X470 | X370 | B450 | B350 | A320
PCIe 3.0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
PCIe 2.0 | 8 | 8 | 6 | 6 | 4 | |
USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbit / s) | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1
USB 3.0 | 6 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 2 | |
USB 2.0 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 | |
SATA 6 Gbit / s | 4 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 2 | |
SATA or NVME Raid | 0/1/10 | 0/1/10 | 0/1/10 | 0/1/10 | 0/1/10
Overdrive | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | -
CrossFire / SLI | Yes Yes | Yes Yes | Yes / - | Yes / - | - |
We can only report the prices on the basis of foreign webshops, the figures are around 70 and 90 euros, which corresponds to approximately 22-29 thousand forints. So the really cheap solutions still remain the A320 motherboards, the B450 is more of a kind of golden mean.
