The image around the new single-core monster is clear.
Last Friday we had the opportunity to post some pictures of the ATI Radeon HD 5870, and now a gentleman named CzechGamer has presented two more exciting photos of the next generation controller.
In addition to the images, some technical data came to light: The core area is 338 mm2, which contains 2,1 billion transistors (as a reminder: the RV790 consisted of 959 million). The 8 GDDR5 memory chips enclose the GPU from the right and top, which run at 1300 MHz (effective 5200 MHz) according to the reference recommendation. There will also be a 2GB version of the card, in his case an additional 8 memory chips will be placed on the other side of the PCB. To satisfy the appetite of the HD 5870, two 6-pin PCI-E power connectors are required.
Additional seemingly definitive specifications were also announced at the ATI Forum: 1600 stream processors, 850 MHz core clock signal. Pairing the two features results in computational performance of 2,72 TFLOPs. The new card supports ATI Eyefinity technology, the consumption values are around 188 W when loaded and 27 W when unloaded.
The 1GB version is expected to cost less than $ 400 ($ 74 at today's exchange rate), while the model with 752GB of memory is expected to cost $ 2 ($ 449 at today's exchange rate).
