Tiny wireless charger from LG
LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its latest wireless charger at the World Mobile Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Portability was the main consideration in the design of the WCP-6,9, which was only 300 cm in diameter.
Despite its small size, the charging surface has become 70% larger than LG’s previous generation wireless charger. The new model is compatible with standard five-pole micro-USB chargers, providing maximum charging performance and convenience for mobile customers. The WCP-300 uses electromagnetic induction technology and is Qi-certified by an organization called the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Electromagnetic induction creates a magnetic field that generates electric current and charges the batteries of devices placed on the charging surface. The certificate certifies that the WCP-300 is compatible with all smartphones that support the Qi standard.
In the US market, both the LG Spectrum 2 and Nexus 4 models already support wireless charging, so there is no need to purchase a separate charger. LG believes that support integrated into the smartphones of the future is the most important step towards making wireless charging technology an industry standard in the future.
