Introductory

The AOC rolled the AGON AG352UCG. No wonder gamers are there for these monitors, as the AOC packs a huge 35-inch panel with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels, plus that not enough curved display, the 1800R curvature is the perfect solution to let's see every square inch of the huge panel without fatigue.

The AOC is constantly updating the AG352UCG series, and the AG352UCG6, now on the test table, is the second generation in the series. The predecessor, which introduced in March 2017, at first glance is not much different from the current release, but behind the display we find some pleasant differences. The resolution, size and curvature of the VA panel have not changed, but the “overclocked” mode has been added to the monitor as the biggest ferret, which has upgraded the predecessor’s 100 Hz update to 120 Hz, and in addition, we can now enjoy the NVIDIA G- SYNC technology blessings. I think we can say that nowadays this is almost a basic requirement for a ganer display, as this allows NVIDIA card holders to enjoy lag-free gaming.

Of course, the monitor has also received other novelties, ones that help keep our eyes healthy for our old age, when computer gaming will no longer be our first and foremost occupation. These new technologies, Flicker-Free and LowBlue all serve this purpose.

AOC offers the AGON AG352UCG6 in two versions. You can choose the standard black-covered display with an aluminum stand, or the "Black Edition" version with a black upper part and a black-painted stand. On the front panel, the panel is framed by a 15-millimeter border, which has been given a piano lacquer color, while the back panel is black, in which the familiar wing motif from AOC is silver or black. We had a specimen with a black stand and silver rear wings.

The view is already stunning, however, a Gamer monitor cannot exist without color LEDs. The AGON AG352UCG6 received “decorative lighting” in two places. There is a thin strip to the right and left under the display panel on the front and plexiglass inserts embedded in the wing motif on the back. You can choose from three colors, the lighting can be red, blue or green, the color can be adjusted in the monitor menu.

The base of the monitor, more precisely the stand, was given a special look. The three feet keep the huge display stable, and the stand-mounted stand makes it easy to move the panel up and down by 120 millimeters. Another setting option that can be tilted is display, forward 6 backwards by up to 30 percent. Foam the cake so that not only is the height adjustable, the cleverly designed structure allows you to rotate the display 30 degrees to the right and left.

As with the other gamer monitors on the AOC, we find the headphone holder here, which is usually located in the upper right (top left corner) of the back cover. This simple holder can be folded out or closed as required. If you’re not listening to sounds through headphones, you don’t even need to buy speakers next to the monitor, because you’ll find the output slots for the two 2-watt speakers on the back.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 16

The AOC AGON AG352UCG6 provides all the modern connectors gamers may need: 3,5mm analog microphone and headphone jacks, SuperSpeed USB 3.0 downstream + fast charging port, another USB 3.0 downstream port and a third USB 3.0 upstream port. Below you will find the DisplayPort 1.2 connection (3440 × 1440 @ 100Hz), the HDMI 1.4 port (3440 × 1440 @ 50Hz), the 3,5 mm microphone output (for PC) and the external power supply connector.

Technológia

You may have read about some of the details in the introduction, but the details are just now.

As a first step, it is important to clarify that this monitor is not based on the currently re-fashioned, but infinitely obsolete TN + film panel. As we have described several times, the biggest and even the only advantage of the TN panel is the extremely low response time. In all other respects, the picture quality is disastrous compared to an advanced IPS or VA panel, not to mention OLED displays.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 15

At the same time, Philips and AOC displays can run into frequent VA panel solutions. These are between the IPS and TN panels in terms of image quality and available response time. That is, in terms of image quality, this is a better choice, in terms of response time, and in connection with this, for example, it is worse in terms of retraction.

The AOC AGON AG352UCG6 model is therefore based on a 35" AMVA LCD panel manufactured by AU Optronics, which supports a 120 Hz refresh rate and true 8-bit color per channel. The backlight is based on WLED (white light emitting diode). The panel also has a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels and works with a gray-to-grey response time of 4 ms. The static contrast of the old model is between 2500: 1 and 2000: 1.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 3

The color depth is the 8 bits mentioned above - 16,7 million colors - per subpixel without dithering. The typical brightness is 300 cd / m², which is also a common value for similar monitors. The refresh rate is 120 Hz, which is of course not constant for G-Sync. The typical response time is the 4 milliseconds already mentioned above, which is again only a value typical of VA panels. For viewing angles, the manufacturer specifies a horizontal value of 178º, 178º vertical, which is correct in this case, for such sharp angles the distortion and color distortion remain within acceptable limits, unlike the TN panel, referred to as mumus, where otherwise manufacturers are given. The power consumption of the moonitor is 70 watts, which is a completely acceptable value at this size.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 18

Although the panel is the same as last year, the new AGON monitor already incorporates technologies familiar from other AOC monitors, such as the AOC FlickerFree and LowBlue modes. FlickerFree reduces eye strain during tedious and long gameplay. LowBlue mode reduces harmful short-wavelength blue light, which research has shown can cause long-term eye damage over time.

Practical experience

First of all, it is important to say, although it is clear that for most gamer monitors in full HD, i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, the native 352 x 6 pixel resolution of the AOC AGON AG3440UCG1440 puts a significant extra load on the graphics cards. Because of this, it is completely unnecessary to try the bottom of the mid-range, you need a combo VGA to get the right number of frames. Since I play little I didn't have one at home, so I was forced to borrow a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 6

Before I started playing I checked the usual things like viewing angles and backlight uniformity. In the case of the former, I had no doubt that the factory data would be correct, and I was not disappointed. However, the backlight is always a sensitive point, sometimes we can experience quite ugly differences in brightness between different areas of the panel. In the case of the AOC AGON AG352UCG6, these differences appeared mostly at high brightness, but this was to be expected. Using the “Overdrive” function in the menu, users can adjust the backlight intensity in five levels. In addition to turning off Overdrive, you can choose Weak, Light, Medium and Strong settings, I can't really recommend using the latter because I found it too much even in normal use, and it was downright confusing during games. At this strong setting, the unevenness of the background lighting was of course the most visible. This was noticeable at the corners, and there were brighter surfaces near the edges. It is interesting that this excessive illumination at the edges did not reach deep, like a cloud towards the center of the panel, but remained in a thin band near the edges.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 8

Of course, the games couldn’t be left out either, I chose a strategy game and a classic interior shooter for the test. The former was never my world, so I didn’t skim too much, although experts say the Dota 2 isn’t bad. The obvious advantage of the monitor was that the field of view was wider than a traditional monitor, allowing a larger area to be seen from the map. Plus, the menu used for shopping didn’t have to be constantly crumpled, it didn’t bother me during the game.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 12

The second game was PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which was already much closer to my heart. I note I haven’t played with this before, but with similar ones, so it wasn’t hard to get used to. The multiplayer part of the game, of course, is the point, at least I think so. I used to fight on a traditional 4: 3, later 16: 9 display. I have to say that this 35-inch panel is a big advantage during the game. During the fight, due to the curvature of the monitor, a very large part of the space can be seen, the monitor almost surrounds us, without rotating the head, we can perfectly sense the movement on the edges with our peripheral vision. Sitting at the right distance, the realism of the game increases a lot by not looking at the playing field through a window, but filling almost our entire field of view.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 21

I have already indicated above that the 4 ms response time of the monitor is not the most perfect for games, of course this is especially true for programs where fast movements are typical. The effect of the relatively high response time was also felt, with a larger, but especially noticeable, delay at the highest brightness. Fortunately, I don’t recommend this brightest way anyway. At lower brightness levels, such as the second gear, staring at the monitor was less tiring and the noticeable drag was gone. Apparently it was there, only in the heat of the game, in addition to the lower brightness backlight, it was no longer distracting, so it didn’t even show up.

Summary

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 1

Dorka, MMD’s extremely kind PR assistant, promised me to surprise her with a monitor and I didn’t have to be disappointed in it, she was really surprised. The thing is, I asked for this because over the last slowly twenty years, so many monitors have turned on my desk that I’m getting more and more immune to the news. I have also had Philips and AOC monitors from the MMD range, as well as office, graphics, multimedia and gaming. So I was a little confused as to what to ask for this test. My confusion was ended by the promise of the above surprise, which I gladly accepted, at least the burden of choice did not weigh on my shoulders.

AOC AGON AG352UCG6 Gaming Monitor 11

The package arrived, and seeing the size of the box, I shrugged, another curved display monitor. My opinion, of course, changed right away when I realized the new gamer monitor was in the box. It immediately made me curious as I hadn’t played on a monitor this size yet. Sure, I thought it would be good, but to click as much as I didn’t. If I could be young again, if I had as much time to play again as I used to, it would be a sure goal to get such a display in front of my eyes. If I think about the fact that I used to carry huge 17-inch tube monitors on my shoulder for Quake parties, I really think so, though, at the time, this technology might not have even existed at the time.

So the point is that the AOC AGON AG352UCG6 is a bitang good structure. I loved it, I will love it, even if I have to give it back, since I could be a teenager again for 1-2 weeks, I could write against it, because there was something to catch, I had to test.

I would like to thank Dorka for this attention from you and look forward to your next surprise!
