AMD Geode LX 800 @ 0,9W

Advanced Micro Devices has announced its latest fully embedded x86-compatible processor, the Geode LX 800 @ 0,9W.

Geode LX supports Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded operating systems, so it can be widely used in low-power, active cooling-less portable and other small devices.

The manufacturer can imagine its latest product as a control unit for HDTVs, the soul of small Internet stations, or even as the central unit of Windows-based tablet PCs. As we reported earlier, the previous Geode, the 500@1,1W, was for example famous for its small size and extremely low price Personal Internet Communicator, which seeks to take computing and the Internet to the poorest areas of the world. Unfortunately, the unit announced at the end of October has meanwhile found out that it will probably never be available in Europe, as our continent believes that Sempron-based solutions can also be paid for by customers and do not want to become their own opponent.

The Geode LX 800@0,9W operates at 500 MHz, and its consumption, as the name suggests, is only 0,9 W. Thanks to this, a full-fledged computer can be built with it with a consumption of 1-14 watts, which can take x86 into areas systems where we could not even dream of them until now. The Geode LX 800@0,9W, together with a companion chip that can be considered as the AMD Geode CS5536 chipset, costs $45 in a batch of 10 pieces.
