AMD Catalyst 12.11: The Miracle Drive on the Road

It’s been 10 months since the release of the first member of the AMD Radeon HD 7000 series, but developers still see serious untapped potential in the GCN architecture.
ATI Catalyst Proof of this is the AMD Catalyst 12.11 “Never Settle,” which brings significant performance gains to all Graphics Core Next (GCN) -based solutions. Acceleration rates reach 15 percent during Sleeping Dogs, Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter, with improvements affecting all Frostbite 2 engine-based games. The black soup is manifested in the fact that obtaining the WHQL certification is expected only in November (even the beta driver is not public), and we will probably not see a change in the older graphics controllers.

The popular techPowerUp! computer portal has examined the driver. There are no complaints about the game, we can find familiar titles from almost all categories (RTS, FPS, TPS, simulators). On average, the site's staff experienced this level of acceleration:
  • HD 7750: + 4%
  • HD 7770: + 5%
  • HD 7850: + 4%
  • HD 7870: + 10%
  • HD 7950: + 7%
  • HD 7970: + 7%
  • HD 7970 GHz: + 7%

For the titles named above (Sleeping Dogs, Battlefield 3), even more remarkable progress has been made, with AMD (now) really not skewed.

In historically more fortunate Western countries, the company came as another surprise. As you can see in the picture above, the Radeon HD 7900 series controllers come with FarCry 3, Hitman: Absolution and Sleeping Dogs for free, plus a 20% discount on the Medal of Honor Warfighter. The gift box also affects lower speed, cheaper solutions.
