ADO Z20C Electric Bicycle - Introduction

I have to admit, I still considered myself an urban man this spring, looking for an electric bike with that kind of eye. Then we moved to the countryside in early summer, and that changed everything.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 1

In our new neighborhood, there is an incredibly more beautiful hiking route waiting for you, including some that are tailored for bikes. No crowd, I can go whenever my free time allows. Because of this, the aspect of bike choice then changed.

I looked at ones that are strong enough, able to cope with harder terrain in addition to asphalt, suitable to be used smoothly, as a bicaj, even without assistance, but if you need help, it is available in sufficient quantities.

Then I was confronted with an introductory promotion, a product from a manufacturer completely unknown to me before, that was the ADO Z20C Fat Bike.

It was love at first sight. The thick, large-patterned hose wheels, the shape of the frame, the shift and double disc brakes, and the seemingly large 20-inch rims together seemed like a pretty good package. Although the price was not low, they ask for 100-150 thousand forints more for similar bicycles, so…

The only uncertainty was caused by the size, as interestingly I could not find any data other than the wheel size, so I tried to estimate what I was facing based on the pictures. It didn’t work out, but in this case, I got to the luckier end of things. You can find out why in this article.

Box, packaging

At first, the box in which it arrived seemed strangely large, but when it was unfolded and unpacked, it was quite clear why it was so big.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 4

Folded nicely in the box, the frame, the wheels are of course mounted in place, so putting them together is not art. In all places where the parts could come in contact with soft packaging, the Z20C arrived completely undamaged.

Apart from the larger assembled part, only the handlebar is not pushed into place, but of course it is not just that separate either, as the cable whip, the bowden, connects it to the frame.

All we have to do is screw up the fenders, unfold the pedals, put the steering wheel in place and we’re done. Or not completely, but about that later.

So the packaging is exemplary, never worse! Before I get into the experience report, let the official data come!

The paper form

Let’s start with the dry data, because from that I will be able to explain what I have to say and there will be what, I promise!

The full name of the bike is Dece Oasis AD Z20C. The manufacturing company was founded a few years ago, not surprisingly the company is Chinese. While they can’t look back on a long history, that’s no longer true of the parent company, the brand owner didn’t start yesterday, true, only by Chinese standards, because you can’t find companies here for many decades, or just rarely. To say the least, Xiaomi is only 10 years old.

The electrical system is 36 volts, the battery has a capacity of 10 Ah, of course made up of lithium-ion cells. The motor is 350 watts, which is a pretty strong piece, the frame is made of aluminum alloy. Nevertheless, the total weight of the bike is 29 pounds, which is not enough if you need to lift or push, but we get help for the latter. This is one of the extras of the stuff.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 10

The wheels are 20 inches, the rims are also made of aluminum alloy, the rubber is ballooned and crunchy enough to venture into the terrain, but not so uncomfortable to use on asphalt.

The official figure for the distance that can be covered by a battery over 20 kilometers, but of course it is also written there, depends on the terrain and the weight of the driver. This weight can be up to 120 pounds anyway, so our fuller compatriots can sit on it if they feel like rolling one.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 12

Of course, roll around, because you can do that too. There are the usual three modes, i.e. a normal, variable, seven-speed bike without assistance. If we start to get tired, we can use it with help, here too we can use the gearboxes, so we turn, the engine helps. If you’ve finally had enough of your workout, you can also use it in full electric mode by pulling the throttle.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 13

The final speed is given at 25 kilometers per hour, which in some countries is the upper limit of the speed allowed by an electric bike. Of course, if a slope comes in and we turn, it won’t brake automatically, and there’s even another trick here, but I’ll write about that in one of the next chapters.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 14

If we use assistance, the distance can be increased to 40 kilometers, ie essentially a Budapest-Venice distance can be covered with it, and then, once we have reached, we can go to the charger for 4 hours. It takes so long to fully charge before we can go home.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 15

With regard to the engine and the battery, it is important that there is, of course, a regenerative power supply, ie rolling the slope and releasing the throttle to charge the battery. In the context of charging, it is also important that several different protections are built in. There is overcharging and overcurrent protection, overload protection, overheating protection, short circuit protection. The battery automatically shuts off when the charge reaches the correct level and immerses the cells evenly when immersed.

Among the accessories attached, the 7-speed Shimano transmission and the disc brakes at the front and rear should be highlighted. For the latter, it’s important to mention that the discs are thick enough, I couldn’t fry them, even though I tried. The brake itself is mechanical, the bowden is not hydraulic.

For lamps, the manufacturer does a little trick because it says Front Lamp, Tail Light. From this, many article writers have concluded that there is a lamp in the front and back, but there is none, the meaning of which I do not see. The front lamp is okay, even very okay, but there is only one cat's eye on the back. Obviously, it’s not a big adventure to install a backlight afterwards, but it could have been factory.

It is also important that the bike can be folded so that we can put it in the trunk. We can fold the frame in half, lower the steering wheel, but it won't be small either, so you need a boot space to absorb it anyway. Let's say you fit in the combo.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 19

If I’ve already mentioned the expandable chassis, that includes the fact that the battery pack is built into the frame, of course, and if you want, the lock key - because it is! - after turning it off, we can take it out, take it to the apartment, spend it in the office.

More importantly, they put an LCD display on it, it also has a backlight. In one of the following chapters, I will describe what you know, but specifically compete with a simpler on-board computer.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 21

These are the essential things. Texts that dry on a road 4 meters from the stopping distance wet it 6, so either believe it or not. It was a multiplier for me at first, but it can be attributed to, say, my own stupidity.

Controls

On the steering wheel, on the left hand, are the rear brake lever, the computer, the lamp switch, the horn, and a three-position switch, the role of which I have not been able to figure out so far. I just don’t notice anything wherever I connect, but I’m still investigating that. Let's say this should be our biggest problem.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 22

To the right is the front brake, the shift switch, and the throttle on the inside of the grip.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 23

That's it, let's see the most interesting "Onboard Computer"!

The computer

It may be a less important aspect, but it looks especially good. Large display, three buttons, strong backlight and lots of data.

If the lock key at the bottom of the frame has been turned, you can turn the bike on by holding down the center button for three seconds, and you can turn it off by pressing it for three seconds.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 24

With the plus and minus buttons we can adjust the amount of help, in the fifth gear the stronger ascent will be just a light cardio workout, and in the zero our legs can be muscular.

The display also contains data such as the average speed, the maximum speed and, of course, our current speed. We see the total distance traveled and the distance traveled since the current start. Of course, we see the battery charge, the exact time, and the time since we started. Foam the cake so that even the lighting has feedback on the display!

The data so far does not seem small either, but there is still a function!

I wrote above that we don’t have to sweat even if we have to push the bike. Pressing the minus button for 5 seconds activates the function called park assistant.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 25

Don’t even say my eyes widened too, but of course it’s not about our bike parking on its own, it’s about starting to drive the rear wheel at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour so we can walk loosely up a mountain. It’s ridiculously six, but there were times when it came in handy.

And, then come the extras because there are them too. We have a service menu.

We get a description for the first eight items of this menu, but there are other settings that I haven’t figured out for a feature yet.

In this menu, you can change the brightness of the display, switch between kilometers per hour and miles per hour, adjust the battery pack voltage (say, don't mess it up), change the wheel size, and now stick, set the maximum available speed. The peak value is 100.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 26

Yeah, of course you won't get 100 kilometers an hour with it unless you jump out of a plane, but it's not bad that 25 Km / h can be bypassed. Don’t ask how legal this is, everyone uses it at their own risk, don’t point to me that I said it could be.

I’m wondering what I haven’t described yet, but I think it was all there may come to the essential part, the use.

Experiences

Let’s start with the bad, because there’s not much of it, one thing in total, and that is fitting fenders (or fenders, as you like).

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 27

What can I say, the thing is pretty crappy, they could have solved it more nicely. Maybe it’s no coincidence that most factory images don’t even have anything on it. Luckily they added back and forth as well, but it took a while for me to fabricate. So much for the bad, from now on only good things will come, and of course my nonsense.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 28

So the bike came, I unpacked, put together what I had to put together, put on the fenders as well, and then looked at how much souffle is in the battery. There was, so I bounced on it and headed down the street.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 29

Needless to say, in the big rush to try it I forgot one pretty important thing, checking the brakes.

You can already guess, dry road here, dry road there, the braking distance was not 4 meters, but it didn't work. Luckily, no car crossed when I slid elegantly across the intersection, pulling the brake lever to the grip. When I stopped, my legs were shaking a bit, but I got away. Don’t be so stupid, no matter how much you want to go, check everything first!

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 30

I came home, set the brakes, propped up the bike, plugged in the charger. It was an exciting day.

Well, after this short story, let's see what the ADO Z20C is like!

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 31

Let’s get back to the introduction and how much I underestimated its size. When I picked him out of his box, my first thought was bass, it’s huge. In the pictures, it looks like a camping bike, but when put together with the huge wheels, the rough-looking metal frame, it looks quite brutal. I'll also put a picture here to understand what I'm talking about. To the left is the front wheel of my 800cc touring engine and to the right is the wheel of the Z20C.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 32

The bicaj itself is very reassuring. Perfect welds, flawless painting, the person standing next to him feels like a light offroad motorcycle from which the block has been forgotten.

The handlebars are high enough to be comfortable even when the seat is low (in some sort of BMX position) and even when it is high. The seat bar is so long that I think it can be adjusted smoothly to a height of over 2 meters, at least for me, at 184 centimeters, my leg didn’t reach my first try.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 33

The seat is comfortable, not too soft, not too hard, doesn’t want to fall out from behind me, and it stood securely on the ground, like everything else. This is perhaps also due to the first telescopes, which are perhaps a degree harder than they should be, a feeling tuned to asphalt.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 34

Speaking of terrain, a brief charcoal about use. The third day I set off with him on the mountain. Muddy dirt roads, rises and slopes covered with rotting leaves, had it all. There was a part where the rear wheel was just spinning on the wet Avar, but I also spent most of the road, on the slopes, in the saddle.

The frame and the whole structure withstood the stamina well, so the field test checked me out.

Of course, I also used it on asphalt, and yes, I tried what it would be like to shoot at a top speed of 25 kilometers per hour. Well, obviously not going a hundred, it was a top speed of 35-40 on a straight, non-sloping road.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 35

Let’s just say the big experience wasn’t that either, but the fact that I completed the roundabout at a speed between 30-35, just as I decided on my bike. It’s quite a mind-boggling experience sitting in the saddle of an electric bike.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 36

The help comes in very handy on asphalt anyway, we live in hilly countryside (Zala), and sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a little help on the hill. On moderately steep inclines, winding loosely, you can reach 25 kilometers per hour, with a simple motor, electric drive of 20. So these things are also very okay.

Let's sum it up

The thing is, I could still flood through pages, but I described the point. I bought a bike, up a mountain, a valley, asphalt and mud, and it worked out, just like I wanted. Only this fender, fender is what is not perfect, but it may still be forgivable.

I love it the way it is. I love that although the build is like an old camping bike, I don’t look like a monkey on the grindstone. Human, sorry for the male chauvinist expression, but masculine, a real macho piece. Everyone turns after him, which is no wonder they are probably rarely seen.

This is not an electric bike, but a monster - ADO Z20C test 37

In the introductory campaign now, it is written that it is at half price, which I think is orbital nonsense, but the fact is that it is a gift for the current price of 321 thousand forints.

So, if you like, you can now order from a German warehouse with a delivery time of roughly 7 working days. Of course, neither customs nor VAT, delivery is free.
