ADO A16 - Small, light cheap but powerful city bike
The ADO A16 is the manufacturer's latest and smallest, but not the most modest, bike.
I am in the very fortunate position of being able to introduce you to the first two bikes of the ADO myself. I’ve been skinning the Z20C since last fall, and the A20 has been in the family this year. The thing is lucky because the ADO continues to build on the familiar building blocks, only the size and price will change for the smaller brother just presented.
Even the ADO A20 was designed for urban use, but due to its larger size, mixed use was not unthinkable either. Of course not in the case of the A16 either, but due to the reduced wheel size from 20 to 16 inches, due to the shorter frame, this can really be said to be urban cajga. Let’s see what has changed and what is left over from the A20!
The drive chain has been partially replaced. The motor has remained what we have become accustomed to, with a limited power of 250 watts at the factory, but the limitation can be bypassed, so 350 watts will be what we get.
The 36 volt system remained, but the battery pack changed, instead of the previous 8 Ah, we get 4Ah. This does not change the final speed and load capacity of the bike, in theory we can squeeze a speed of 35 km / h into it, and the maximum portable weight is 120 kilograms. At the same time, the distance can be reduced, with a purely electric drive we get 35 kilometers and with pedal assistance we get 70 kilometers.
As expected, the sizes also changed. In the open, factory-like condition, the length of the bike has been reduced by a good 10 centimeters compared to the A20. It’s pretty much that much shorter than the A20 compared to the Z20C, so I can say that this 10 cwnti is a very noticeable difference. Due to the smaller size, the weight of the bike has also become smaller, with a net value of 21 kilograms in this case.
At the same time, the 7-speed transmission was left, the front and rear disc brakes were left, and the energy recovery system remained. The bicycle helicopter is also unchanged, and in the case of the A16 we also get a USB connection to the car, through which we can charge our phone.
So the ADO A16 is a real urban bike that folds up a bit and will fit in the trunk of even smaller cars due to the smaller wheel and frame size. This will benefit those who want to trigger an urban mass approach. The 35-kilometer purely electric range is enough to cross Budapest from one side of the city to the other, even if we pedal, we can make the way there and back with electric assistance.
If you are driving from an agglomeration, you can park your car in a suburban P + R car park and continue your journey by bike. Due to its small size, you can easily put it in an elevator, and you can even charge the removable battery next to your work desk to have the right amount of soufflow on the way home.
Finally, the price. The Himo Z16 can be considered a direct competitor, which puts the price of the A16 in par. however, the Himo Z16 is slightly weaker, slightly slower, and also has a maximum payload of 20 kilograms.
